Our Latest...

Josh has started wanting to be more involved with Abby. Mostly I think this has helped him be less jealous towards her, but he still thinks its funny to hit. He does give her kisses and loved being able to hold her on his lap. He now climbs up the couch and points to his lap when he wants to be able to hold her.

We tried to get Josh involved in something, so we made some Christmas sugar cookies. Josh was in charge of the sprinkles and it took all of my self control to not make these cookies look perfect. This was his project and he had fun "sprinkling" or completely covering the cookies. He had a good time decorating them, I had a good time eating them, so I guess we both win!

Sugar instead of sleep.

Its this time of year that I have a serious collection of a variety of candy stored in the corner of my kitchen. It is left over from the holidays, both those who have past, and those yet to have come.

From Halloween I still have caramels, Smarties, and fun size Twizzlers. The Thanksgiving holiday added mini Hershey candy bars to my collection, although only the milk and dark chocolate bars still linger. Christmas brought my favorite to the bowl, mint M&M's. I love them and they are only available for Christmas. My other favorite Christmas candy is the white peppermint flavored salt taffy you can buy from the bulk candy aisle.

This is definitely something boring to write about, but what else do you do when you are up at 3 am with a baby? Do you have a collection? What would I find at your house?

1st Bath at home

I had to post some pictures that we took after we gave Abby her first home bath cause she was making us laugh so hard. Her hair was just too cute to pass up the photo opportunity. I wish I had this kind of volume.

First Impressions

One of the things I was a little sad about going into delivery was the visitor restriction policy in place at the hospital. Due to the swine flu, the hospital was only allowing 2 visitors at a time per patient and no one under the age of 14. I was hoping Josh would be able to come visit us and the new baby. Fortunately for us, the hospital lifted the visitor restrictions a few hours after she was born because of the decrease in swine flu patients they had been seeing in the last little while. So Josh got to come pick us up from the hospital and meet his new sister while we were still there.
When he first got there he was pretty excited to see me which made me happy. He was even more curious about the baby and spent a long time just looking at her. He kept saying "Bay" which is his name for her now and was very good about keeping his distance for their first meeting. I think she was equally curious about seeing him as she kept looking over and staring at him when he was close.
Since being home, Josh has been good for the most part. He asks for her first thing when he wakes up and gets very concerned about her if I move her when he's not looking. He tries to share his toys with her and feed her his food. (Both nice gestures, although not particularly good on my stress level.) He hasnt seemed to get to jealous yet and loves to sit by me and the baby on the couch and watch TV.
Tonight he was a little more naughty and attention seeking, so we will see how he does the next few days, but so far I think Josh is going to be a really great big brother and we've seen how caring his heart really is even at his young age.
Abby is a really good baby who loves to eat and sleep. Nights and days are a bit mixed up right now which is hard for my sleeping habits, but I expected that and I know it wont last forever. We are going to try and follow the advice found in a book called Baby Wise. It really helped with getting Josh on a schedule fairly early on so hopefully she will adjust too!

the New Baby

Abby Lynne Drury

So here's the birthday story for those who like these kinds of stories. Tuesday we came to the hospital about 6 am for a scheduled induction. The staff took awhile to get everything prepared so we didn't really have anything going on until 8 am. The Dr broke my water and I was dilated to about a 2 at that point. The next time they checked me was just before I got the blessed epidural around noon. I was at about a 5 at that point. Then I took a short nap (which was so nice once I was comfortable) and the baby was born at 2:32. She weighed 6 lbs 13 ounces and was 18 inches long. I was happy with how everything went. It was a lot faster than my first labor and I only had to push for a few minutes. We haven't had any complications and will likely be home Thursday morning or afternoon! Poor Josh is going to be so mad at us for leaving him for so long and I hope we can get into a routine soon for his sake. I'm sure we'll post some more pictures sometime after we get home.
